EDITORS” NOTE

The Secwepemc Education Institute was created by the Board of Directors of
the Secwepemc Cultural Education Society—a cultural umbrella organization of the
Shuswap Nation—to organize its post-secondary education programs. It consists of
the Secwepemc Cultural Education Society—Simon Fraser University Program
(SCES-SFU); the Native Adult Basic Literacy Program; the Native Adult Basic
Education Program (NABE); and the First Nations Access to University Trades and
Technology (FNAUTT). It is located on the Kamloops Indian Reserve at 345
Yellowhead Highway, Kamloops, BC. V2H 1H1

Secwepemc is the anglicized version of Shuswap. It is pronounced S-hwup-muh
