Staging Better Futures/Mettre en scène de meilleurs avenirs is a seven-year (2023-2030) research project committed to designing interventions into systemic structures that shape theatre education at Canadian colleges and universities. We are funded mainly by a Partnership Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Our partnership currently consists of 12 post-secondary institutions, 9 theatres, 9 professional associations, a 40-member Student Caucus, and a 20-member Freelance Artist-educator Consultancy. Partners and participants from 8 provinces contribute expertise in decolonizing, anti-racist, equitable, diverse, and inclusive (DC/AR/EDI) pedagogy; theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, and knowledge mobilization strategies relevant to the project's research plan; and lived experience as Indigenous, racialized, diversely gendered, and disabled people speaking English, French, and Indigenous, and other languages.
