A recipient of the 1997 Canadian Author’s Association
Air Canada Award for “most promising Canadian author
under 30”, Richard Van Camp is a member of the
Dogrib Nation from Fort Smith, NWT, Canada. His novel
The Lesser Blessed, was translated into German and
published by Ravensburger. He is also the author of
two children’s books: A Man Called Raven and What’s
The Most Beautiful Thing You Know About Horses?
illustrated by Cree artist, George Littlechild. In 1998 he
was commissioned to write a radio drama for CBC
Radio One’s Festival of Fiction. “Mermaids” was
broadcast nationally several times and was narrated by
Cree actor, Ben Cardinal. A graduate of the En’owkin
International School of Writing and the University of
Victoria’s Creative Writing BFA Program, Richard is
currently working on his Master’s Degree in Creative
Writing at the University of British Columbia.
